I sometimes like to watch random non-mainstream news reports. Mostly, because they tend to cover events that our actual news does not. A lot of it has to do with people protesting against something the Government is doing. While surfing the webz, I stumbled on this video of hunger strikes going on in California's prisons. Felt it was interesting enough to share.
For those of you who didn't watch the video, please watch at least the first minute or so. The black guy you see in the splash screen is the guy who's telling the news reporter about the strikes. He starts off by explaining that he's a communist. I found this highly amusing.
The guy brings up some major points. One being the group punishment. From what I understand, when a prisoner breaks a rule, the entire race of that prisoner gets punished. For example, a black guy punches a prison guard. The prison then punishes all the black people in that block. Now, this works for all racists, but seeing as how there's not a large number of whites in prisons, I can see how this would be borderline racists.
Another issue the was raised was the isolation chambers. This is where they put people in a room the size of a bathroom for 23 hours a day. The room doesn't have any windows and is usually soundproof. They are let out for one hour to absorb sunlight and get fresh air. However, during this time they make contact with no one except the guards and most of the hour is spent handcuffed and/or being searched.
So, my question to you guys is; Do these people deserve to live under these conditions due to the fact that they are criminals? Or do they have the right to have better living conditions even though they've broken enough rules to be given these living conditions to begin with?
