Original Opinion
When I first heard of this movie, I wasn't too interested. I knew it was based off of a game for the Playstation 2, but I had never bothered to play it. From what I knew both the game and the movie were just generic vampire stories during a time period when Vampires were getting super popular again. Both the game and the movie looked like 3rd rate entertainment. When I went and rented bunch of movies, I decided to go ahead and rent this and it's sequel. Let's see how bad it really is.
Special Effects
If anyone seen movies such as Evil Dead, then you've already seen the quality of special effects this movie has. Borderline B-movie special effects with oddly done movie editing doesn't make this too appealing on the eyes.
Character Development
There's quite a lot going on in this movie when it comes to character development. You have both villains and heroes switching sides. You have the main character going from a quiet freak show star to savior of the human race. The storyline is actually quite interesting and seems to follow the game quite well (from what I read about the game).
Soundtrack
Nothing special other then the fact that I think they used the video game soundtrack. I haven't played the game, so I'm not sure if that's what they did or not. I just think the entire movie soundtrack sounds like something that should be in a survival-horror knock off computer game.
Original Media
From my research and understanding, the movie did an excellent job following the video game. In fact, it did such a good job that when you buy the special edition DVD version, you also get the game with it. So you can play along while watching the movie. Not to mention the combo is cheaper then getting the actual game by itself. Not sure why though.
Meatloaf, The Pimp
Yes. Meatloaf does a cameo in the movie. He's surrounded by quite a handful of naked ladies. Yes, the movie does show the ladies fully nude. Which is why I labeled this as mature. There's also a graphical sex scene. I'm not complaining. It makes up for the really badly done fight scenes.
Final Opinion
The movie isn't as bad as I heard it was. It's not the best and I probably wouldn't recommend it, except to have everyone see the incredible tits of the main character. Although, it did provide entertainment. Not worth buying, unless you want the game that comes with it. I don't know. The movie was better then others I've seen and doesn't deserve the terrible rating it has. I would have to say watch this if you plan to watch the sequels. Yes, this is now a trilogy.
