Plot Summary
Scott Pilgrim must defeat his new girlfriend's seven evil exes in order to win her heart.
Original Opinion
I saw previews for this movie and knew it was going to be awesome. I actually had no idea it was a graphic novel until the movie came out and people talked about it. I try to stay up to date with with what's popular around the world concerning these types of things, but I'm only one person and I do miss out on some stuff. Like how I had no money at the time the movie came out and had to watch it when it was available to rent. After checking with Wiki, it looks like the majority of the masses had the same problem.
Animation/Special Effects
Just pure amazing. It truly did a great job bringing a comic book to life. Everything from backdrops to sounds being displayed in words across the screen. Probably one of the best retro mind blowing movies I've ever seen.
Character Development
Scott starts off with a high-school Girlfriend, meets Ramona Victoria Flowers, and spends the entire movie growing balls in order to win her heart. I say that sums up the character development. It's extremely entertaining to watch everything unfold.
Soundtrack
Remember being a little kid and playing old school games and loving them to death, because you didn't know any better? Now imagine them sticking the sound effects into a kick-ass movie with good rock music. That's about as radical as the soundtrack gets. I would buy it in a heart beat.
Original Media
I personally haven't read the comics, but my friend, Ty, has. I asked him if he thought they did a good job converting it into a movie. He admitted that even though they had the overall feel done right, they left a lot out. This is due to the fact that the comics had way to much going on to be able to stick everything in the movie. After watching so many live action movies, I can understand this. So, I asked him if they left anything out that he thought they should have kept in the movie. He said it would been awesome if they had stuck Mr.Chau into the movie. So, who is this Mr. Chau? Ty took off to play some D&D before answering, so I went ahead and looked him up. This is what Wiki has to say:
"Mr. Chau is Knives's father. Has a collection of antique samurai swords. His discovery that Knives had dated a white guy causes him to go on a rampage, hunting Scott down and attacking him with his samurai swords. Scott later gains his approval, prompting him to tell Knives that he will not mind if she dates another white guy in the future (his only spoken dialogue), but says it in Chinese, so consequently she does not understand. Mr. Chau appears in Scott Pilgrim vs. the World: The Game as an unlockable character that can be summoned to momentarily aid the player in combat; he is unlocked by encountering him on the overworld map and defeating him in combat."
Final Opinion
This movie is so radical that it blows my mind every time I watch it. I need to buy this for my collection as soon as possible. Anyone over 18 should enjoy this movie solely because of all the references to old school video games. Man, do I miss the old arcades we use to have. I don't know about you guys, but there are none around where I live. Anyway, I highly recommend this film for everyone.
