The Review
Halloween is coming up, and I decided to get in the mood by watching Soul Eater. It's highly inspired by Halloween themes and I figured this was just as good of a time to watch it as any other.
The series has two opening scenes. The catchy songs don't make up for the spoilers. The random scenes of villains, allies, and even fights wasn't really needed. Even more so when they show people that haven't even been introduced yet. It's not a super big deal, but it does take away from some of the surprises that might have happen if you didn't already know about the character(s).
I'll admit that the show started off on a bad food. The first three episodes were terrible. I usually judge an anime after three episodes, but something told me to give this a few more. It is a double season anime, and I guess I didn't feel right about ending it so soon.
I'm glad I went with my gut feeling. The show picks up and actually gets really good. Once you get use to the over the top humor and highly annoying characters, the fighting makes it worth watching. Though the series ends long before it should, the manga continues on.
A couple of things that bothered me about this series were; Once injured to the point of death, it only takes a few minutes for them to be okay. I've seen people get cut in half and then walk off like it was nothing. I know this is an anime, but the fact that no one dies, gets heavily injured, or stays wounded longer then half an episode is a bit too much for me. The other thing that bothered me was the fact that they talk about certain key story enhancers, but other than mentioning them, nothing more is ever said. There's so many unanswered questions. For example, there's a meeting of the Witches. This seems to have no point in the story despite the Witches being a main villain. You don't even get to know why they had a meeting to begin with.
All in all, it was an entertaining anime, but it had too many flaws to rate it very high. The lack of fighting pics on the internet show that the majority of the people who enjoyed the show are most likely young, and/or didn't enjoy it for the fighting, but for the forced over the top humor it had.
