The Review
Here we have a cooking series, that takes place in a small restaurant. I'm not too familiar with the landscape of England, but from what I gather, the restaurant is located in the countryside. With this setting, it gives a slightly different perspective of the life of a chef that other shows (which are usually located in the city) don't give.
Each of the characters bring something unique and fun to the show. Personally, I thought that each actor played their character perfectly, and was sadden when I found out that the show wasn't popular enough to stay on the air.
So, what's the show about besides the kitchen life of a small countryside restaurant? It really comes down the the individual characters. You have a romantic interest between the head chef and the manager. The manager's fiance seems to be gay, despite being engaged to a woman. Adding a romantic theme to the series, really helps the show. It gives it a more "real" feeling and gives the viewer a break from the comical parts.
Though the kitchen isn't always super busy, but the do seem to get a lot of work. Mostly during events such as a car show or celebrity eating there. It's always interesting to see how certain events trigger Roland, the lazy head chef, to actually get motivated and do his job instead of trying to find ways out of working.
I really enjoyed this show. It was different from what I usually watched and with each episode, I grew more fond of the characters. I also notice that it has some pretty high ratings online, so it shocks me to learn that they made the final announcement to stop production and not make any more episodes.
