The Review
I have a love/hate relationship with this anime. I'm a pretty big fan of the game and so when I found out about the anime, I went ahead and ordered it off of eBay. My little experience with buying things online was probably the reason I bought the copy that was only $10(USD). I waited an entire month before it arrived in the mail and when I sat down to watch it, I learned it wasn't in English. It didn't even have readable English subs. I was really pissed. I think I waited an entire year and half before I gave in and streamed it.
One of the most noticeable things about this show is the dark colors that are used. It helps keep the mood of the darker themed story, but to me, it made the entire show look and feel depressing. Even the bright colors they used for the Personas are faded to keep them as dull as possible. Allowing this dark feeling to continue uninterrupted throughout the series.
The intro and ending themes change halfway through the series. I think they used it as a marker to indicate that it was now on the second half and the story should start wrapping up. I don't really have any opinion on the soundtrack. The second song that is used for the intro theme is the song they used for the video game. I'm not sure if they did this for a specific reason other than seeing how many fans would notice.
The show is highly complex and confusing. There's a lot going on storyline wise and it wasn't done very well. The entire show doesn't flow as well as it could have and there are times when they over complex things that should have been more simple. Even halfway through the show, I didn't really know what was going on. I had the idea, but deep down inside I still wasn't entirely sure. To be fair, the story is really good and interesting. The only issue it had was the telling of it.
It was fun to see characters from the game. You have Igor, who's in everything Persona related. Then you have Akihiko Sanada, who plays a pretty big part in the anime. Of course there's a character who looks like an older version of Ken Amada. He claims he grew up with persona users and carries a gun that he never fires. For those of you who didn't play the game, they use a specific type of gun to release their personas. Lastly, you have the dog Koromaru. Koromaru doesn't play a very big part and can only be seen in with the kids on the beach. Although I don't think it's ever mentioned that it's the same dog from the game, it would only be logical seeing as the dog is the same type, old, and is somehow familiar with personas.
