The Review
Squid Girl wasn't at the top of my "to watch" list, but after hearing a friend give it high praise, I decided to give it a try. I wasn't too sure what to think of it, but from what I've seen and heard, it was supposedly funny.
If any of you enjoyed watching Lucky Star, you'll probably enjoy Squid Girl. They have very similar animation and the overall feel is pretty similar. It could be the almost childish and random behavior of the entire cast, but I have another opinion. Some of you know that Lucky Star episodes don't really go together to form an overall plot. For the most part, they're pretty random. Squid Girl does the same thing, but takes it a step further. Each episode is broken up into 3 mini-episodes. Each having it's own random plot. There are a few episodes that do go together, but for the most part, the story is pretty random.
Although, random, the anime series does cover quite a few interesting things. Such as 3D television. There's an episode in which they actually display 3D elements that can be viewed if you happen to have some 3D glasses and/or 3D screen. I personally haven't tried it out, but quite a few of my sources state that it works.
One of my personal favorite is the extreme beach volleyball episode. It provided enough entertainment to make me wanna keep watching the show and showed a possible mini-game to be made out of it. Of course the chances of this happening are pretty slim, seeing as how they already have 3 versions of a fishing game. I can still dream though.
What's with the Japanese and their need to make Americans really dumb in Anime shows? I understand that the majority of Americans are pretty clueless when it comes to a lot of things, but the Americans in Squid Girl are top graduates of MIT. Surely you would think they would have some kind of intelligence, but other than inventing the most random things, they don't seem to have any.
