Full Movie Review
Genres: Comedy, Detective, Fantasy
Plot Summary
Rookie cop Denny Colt returns from the beyond as The Spirit, a hero whose mission is to fight against the bad forces in Central City.
Original Opinion
My original opinion on this movie was that it looked retarded and I didn't have much interest in seeing it. In fact, the only reason why I bothered to watch it now is because, I got it for free at the rental store. It was a deal where you rent two movies and get a third one free. Decided to watch it and do a review. I know a lot of people who still haven't seen this one.
Animation/Special Effects
Very nicely done. Kinda has a Dick Tracy meets Rodger Rabbit feel to it. Of course some of the scenes are similar to Sin City in the sense that it's black and white, except for maybe the tie or some random object. This is understandable, since they were both done by the same guy. Still looks real nice in my opinion.
Character Development
Only character development is the chick. His old puppy dog love who turns villain and then turns good. Of course, I'm pretty sure she returned to being a villain after the events of the movie. Yeah..... I'm pretty sure that's the only character development there is. Even the main character stayed pretty much the same. Even had the same personality int he flashbacks.
Soundtrack
I have no real complaints. Nothing to point out though. Just the usual songs that fit nicely with some of the scenes.
Original Media
I have not read the original DC comics. They were around in the 40's and early 50's. DC tried to release some in the 2000's to get people interested, because they had planned on making this movie, but I don't think it caught on. The main problem is that the comics change genre every arc and it gets confusing. However, the movie did a pretty good job from what I know. It's more of a parody to all the other graphic novel movies and probably shouldn't be taken seriously.
Samuel L Jackson
He dresses up as Hitler. This was done randomly and made no sense at all. However, I give him a lot of credit for actually doing it. I found the entire thing hilarious. If you don't watch the movie, at least Youtube this scene.
Final Opinion
I wouldn't buy it. I probably wouldn't ever watch it again. I didn't care much for the movie. I would recommend this to anyone who hasn't seen it and is a hardcore fan of graphic novel movies. Just remember to not take it seriously and treat it as a parody. The movie is more enjoyable this way.
